Spanish Minor - Requirements
The minor in Spanish consists of 20 credits:
- Required Spanish Courses:
- SPAN 2120 Second-Year Spanish 2 OR SPAN 2140 Spanish for Heritage Speakers 2
- SPAN 3000 Advanced Spanish Language Skills
- Alternatively, students can replace SPAN 2150 Intensive Second-Year Spanish for SPAN 2120/2140. In this case, only 3 out of the 5 credits from SPAN 2150 will be counted towards the minor.
- Courses below SPAN 2120/2140 do not count toward the minor.
- Students who test into 3000 have to make up for 2120/2140 by taking 15 upper division credits, instead of 12
- SPAN 3001 does not count for the minor.
- 12 Upper-Division Credits.
- These credits can be selected from any course offered by the department and taught in Spanish.
When selecting courses, students should bear in mind the following:
- SPAN 3100 Literary Analysis is not required for the minor, but it is a prerequisite for all 4000-level literature courses
- SPAN 3030 Professional Spanish for BusinessÂ
SPAN 4060 Problems of Translation for Professions in Spanish 1
SPAN 4070 Problems of Translation for Professions in Spanish 2 - SPAN 3030, 3080, and 4060 are typically offered in the Fall while SPAN 3060, 3070, and 4070 are typically offered in the Spring.
- A maximum of 9 credits, with no more 6 upper-division credits, can be transferred from other US institutions towards the minor.
- A maximum of 6 credits can be taken abroad; this may be in addition to transfer credits.
