Math & Science Sequence

Mathematics and science courses provide the foundation upon which you build your engineering disciplinary knowledge.

Engineering EAC ABET-accredited programs include a minimum of 30 semester credit hours of a combination of college-level mathematics and basic sciences with experimental experience appropriate to the program.

Typically this involves 16 credits of mathematics courses:

  • APPM 1350-4   Calculus 1 for Engineers
  • APPM 1360-4   Calculus 2 for Engineers
  • APPM 2350-4   Calculus 3 for Engineers
  • APPM 2360-4   Differential Equations with Linear Algebra

There is greater variability in the science course selections by major, but they might look something like:

  • PHYS 1110-4   General Physics 1
  • PHYS 1120-4   General Physics 2
  • PHYS 1140-1   Experimental Physics 1
  • CHEN 1201-4, CHEN-1203-2, or CHEN 1211-4   Chemistry for Engineers
  • CHEM 1221-1   Chemistry for Engineers Lab
  • Biology course
