Space Technology for Altitude Reduction and Deorbit Using Sail Technology (STARDUST)
Project Topic: Drag Sails for Small Satellites
Description: STARDUST aims to design, build, and test a passive deorbit device using a drag sail that will unsure a safe and timely re-entry of a CubeSat into Earth’s atmosphere. The aim of the device is to deploy a drag sail of at least 2m2 in size to slow the speed of the CubeSat and cause it to deorbit. As mandated by the FCC, the CubeSat will eventually drop to the Von Karman Line within five years of the end of the CubeSat mission.
