Simu Liu, best known for his role in Marvel Studio’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will give a talk on the Ҵýƽ campus on Wednesday, Feb. 23. Liu is being hosted by Ҵýƽ student-run Distinguished Speakers Board and Cultural Events Board. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the event beginning at 7 p.m.

Ҵýƽ student ($2) and faculty-staff ($10) tickets will be sold weekdays beginning Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the first-floor event table in the University Memorial Center. A valid Buff OneCard and cash will be required at the time of purchase. Public tickets ($15) will be available for starting Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. The ticket link will be live at that time.

“Simu Liu made history as the first Asian-Canadian lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” said Anuja Gore, CEB chair. “His accomplishments as an actor, producer, and soon-to-be author set him apart as someone truly extraordinary. CEB, in collaboration with the DSB, is beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with him.”

In addition to his Ten Rings role, Liu starred in the CBC/Netflix comedy series Kim’s Convenience. The first Canadian television series with an all-Asian lead cast, the series chronicles the day-to-day micro-dramas encountered by a Korean immigrant family that runs a corner grocery store.

He will next star alongside Mark Wahlberg in Arthur the King, and is releasing his memoir We Are Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Storythis May.

Born in Harbin, China, Liu immigrated to Canada at the age of 5 and is fluent in Mandarin.
