Priming, painting听and preparing, the museum staff has been busy at work updating and upgrading each gallery for the best reopening experience possible, with several new exhibits as well as beloved favorites. The dedicated family space, previously relegated to one corner, has been expanded throughout the museum, with children鈥檚 activities now available in each gallery.
鈥淥ur mission is to foster appreciation for and increase knowledge of the natural environment and human history. While we built a virtual听Museum From Home page to meet these goals during the pandemic, nothing can replace the value of direct observation and learning within our galleries,鈥 said Patrick Kociolek, museum director.
CU students will be particularly pleased about the reopening of the BioLounge, located on the museum鈥檚 lower level鈥撯揳 popular gallery that is consistently voted one of the best places on campus to study.
鈥淭he CU Museum is a rich resource for learning, and we are thrilled to be making it available again to students, individuals and families in our community鈥 said Kociolek.
The museum closed its doors on March 14, 2020, in what was expected to be a one-month closure. Since then, the museum has built a virtual repository of many interactive exhibits, programs and activities, and anticipates continuing to provide online resources in the future. One aspect of both the new virtual and in-person resources is that many now offer interpretation in both Spanish and English.
