This semester, a ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ authoring and revising committee delivered the campus’s first-ever diversity plan, titled theÌýInclusion, Diversity andÌýExcellence in AcademicsÌý(IDEA)ÌýPlan.
The plan, which isÌýupÌýfor campus reviewÌýon the website of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement (ODECE)ÌýthroughÌýtheÌýend of businessÌýonÌýDec.14, is a continuously renewing blueprint for action to promote diversity and improve equity for all underrepresented people on the campus.
The plan is the culmination of more thanÌýsix months’ workÌýby the  IDEA Plan authoring and revising committees. It is designed to be an evolving, working plan that continuously engages the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ community in reflection and action to transform our campus climateÌýand to relocate diversity and equity work as a key, central priority of the campus.Ìý
The IDEA Plan outlines goals for progress in three key areas: climate, infrastructure and leadership at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ, andÌýidentifies actions to enable the plan’s three goals. Its emphasis on permanent structural change that enables individuals to find their fit on campus.
Community members can still attendÌýtwo town hallsÌýonÌýDec. 14Ìýand can provide input to the plan by submitting two-page papers online.
To date, the revising and authoring committee has met with over 400ÌýÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØÌýcommunity members inÌýdiscussing theÌýshape ofÌýthe plan. Following the conclusion of the community review period on Dec. 14, the IDEA Plan revising committee will make additional changes to the plan, with the goal of submitting it to the chancellor’s cabinet for review and acceptance in early 2019.
