What do the undead and that coughing dude next to you on the airplane have in common? That guy with the flu will probably not lean over and bite you on the neck, but they are both carriers of a potentially deadly disease.

Fiske Planetarium's latestÌýScience of Sci-Fi talks on Thursday, Feb. 15, willÌýlook at popular zombie movies and TV showsÌýsuch as World War Z, The Walking DeadÌý²¹²Ô»å 28 Days Later, digging into what they got right, what they got wrongÌý²¹²Ô»å how they might help us prepare for a real-life global pandemic.

The Science of Sci-Fi seriesÌýexplores a variety of scientific ideas that surface in science fiction books, moviesÌý²¹²Ô»å video games. TalksÌýare presented by graduate student and postdoc researchers at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ.Ìý

"Zombie Pathology: A survival guide for pandemics in the 21st century" is presented by Becky Nevin, a graduate student in the Astrophysics and Planetary Sciences Department at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ. When she's not learning about supermassive black holes and galaxies, she's busy skiing, hikingÌýor playing ultimate frisbee. She is also passionate about advocating for diversity and equity in astronomy and teaching scientists how to talk to non-scientists.
