Summer鈥檚 here, and that means it鈥檚 time to get outdoors and have some fun.
Do just that at Be Colorado听and CU Health Plan鈥檚 annual on Saturday, Aug. 5, at City Park in Denver. The race is open to CU Health Plan members and their family members (including furry friends), offering them a way to get outside, get active and achieve their best selves.听

What to expect
The day begins at 8 a.m. with a 100-meter dash for the kids, kicking off the main event. Before the race begins, timing bibs will be available. Registration is available the day of the event. The top male and female finishers will receive a prize. All experience and fitness levels are welcome听whether or not you choose to compete.
While on the course, CU Health Plan primary members can track and earn money with听. Steps taken during the race can be logged through the and count as a workout toward a $25 bonus in next month鈥檚 paycheck, just for staying active 12 times a month. The Move. Program runs throughout the year, so racers can continue to听track听physical activity to stay fit.
Booths located after the finish line will offer ideas to improve overall health, along with some swag. Last year鈥檚 booths included Be Colorado, UCHealth, the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center, Anthem, Kaiser and Delta Dental of Colorado.
Prepare for the race
Not sure how to train for a 5K? Jessica Parton, a physical therapist at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, suggests taking a brisk walk or completing running drills before every run to prevent injury. Then, a few post-run stretches and strength training in between runs can improve your movement patterns and increase running performance.
鈥淧lacing excess demands on your body before it has a chance to adapt鈥攂y skipping stretches or neglecting strength training鈥攃an increase your risk for injury,鈥 Parton said.
All fitness and experience levels are welcome at the race. Whether you take a light jog or compete for top prizes, it is important to warm up and cool down as part of your safe exercise routine.
Health for you, your family and your community
There is no registration fee, and when participants 听they have the option to donate to one of three charities: American Heart Association, American Lung Association or American Diabetes Association. By attending the race and donating, CU Health Plan members and their families meet personal wellness goals while promoting healthy lifestyles to their community.听
