Writer-director Niki Tulk's collaborative art production titled Ophelia | LeavesÌýpremieres at the ATLAS Black Box Experimental Studio on Friday, Jan. 27,Ìýand Saturday, Jan. 28.
With reference to Shakespeare's character in Hamlet, Tulk describes her production as "an exploration into what might have happened if someone had listened to Ophelia, and learned her song." TheÌýperformance weaves poetry, soundscapes, video projectionsÌýand live and recorded cello into "a meditation on the spirit of Ophelia as she might have existed . . . an 'undiscovered country' who defies that she can speak only of absence."
With influences such as Ann Hamilton, Ruth ZaporahÌýand Australian theater-maker Jenny Kemp,ÌýOphelia | LeavesÌýis an exploration into what might have happened if someone had listened to OpheliaÌýand learned her song.
