Looking for leadership skills? Apply for听 (CLP).

CU GOLD is a student-led group on campus that provides an opportunity for CU-Boulder students to foster personal development in leadership skills. CLP consists of a leadership retreat Feb. 6-7, weekly seminars devoted to various leadership topics, and a community service project.听

"CU GOLD's Core Leadership Program is the only leadership development program that is free and open to all CU Students," said Hannah Velte, student coordinator for CU GOLD. "Participants gain invaluable leadership skills, but they also gain personal insight and build connections and friendships that last throughout college."

Some of the topics CLP students learn about are core values and how to live them every day; how to promote supportive inclusive communities; what types of leadership styles exist; how to lead with integrity; and how to utilize natural strengths in a team environment.

鈥淎fter an open discussion about personal identity, one of our older, male students thanked the group for creating a space where he could open up and feel accepted. He teared up, and soon the entire group was crying happy tears,鈥 said Velte. "I realized how meaningful the work we do in CU GOLD is. We aren't just giving students free leadership lessons, we really are impacting participants' lives.鈥

Velte, who is from Evergreen, Colorado, is majoring in political science and elementary education. She joined CU GOLD her first semester at CU-Boulder.

The program鈥檚 weekly seminars are facilitated by volunteer board members, CLP coordinators and CU GOLD鈥檚 student advisor,听Chris Leary. Leary is the coordinator for Student Organizations in CU-Boulder鈥檚 Center for Student Involvement. Guests from various capacities on campus also join CLP seminars and lead discussion, including staff members from Career Services and Residence Life.

鈥淐LP is the perfect space for students to learn more about themselves in a very safe space,鈥 said Leary. 鈥淲e are not afraid to have the tough conversations and challenge students to think differently than they ever have before.鈥

The deadline to apply to the Spring 2016 CLP program is Jan. 22, and the program is limited to the first 40 students to apply per session. Any 蜜桃传媒破解版下载 student enrolled in at least one credit hour is invited to apply.

鈥淚 also think it is important to know that we have a lot of fun in CLP,鈥 said Leary. 鈥淔rom the retreat to each meeting, we are constantly laughing and having a blast as we learn about leadership. It is the perfect way to grow personally and professionally as well as make some of the best friends you will have for the rest of your life.鈥
