Hello scholars. We start in on the Halloween themed events this week, with more to come. October is LGBT History Month, so we鈥檙e featuring an awesome LGBT event as well. I am Sarah Ellsworth: IPHY major, Boulder native, and event connoisseur, writing to you from the comfort of beautiful CU-Boulder on all of your weekly opportunities for community involvement, educational whatnot, and supreme fun. Wednesday, Oct. 21

An Evening of Entrepreneurial Spirit, Social Responsibility, and Radical Business Philosophy with Ben and Jerry鈥檚.听The famous Ben and Jerry themselves will grace us with their presence in the Glenn Miller Ballroom at 7 p.m. to talk about how they strive to conduct an environmentally and economically sustainable company and seek to be corporately responsible. Bring your Buff OneCard to get in for free and enjoy some sweet ice cream provided by the hosts. .

Thursday, Oct. 22

鈥淥n God鈥檚 Authority: Conscientious Objection in the Age of Same-Sex Marriage.鈥澨A panel discussion will be held in Eaton 1B50 at 7 p.m. to debate religious freedom vs. GLBTQ rights. In a time of changing social and legal status for gay marriage, how must businesses, organizations and public offices accommodate the GLBTQ community without discrimination and intolerance? 叠颈辞苍别别谤蝉.听Very similar to TedTalks for science, the Bioneers conference involves in-depth panel discussions on solving the world鈥檚 greatest environmental and social problems. The conference will continue through Oct. 25and will feature engaging speakers from all around the world. .

Friday, Oct. 23

The Nearly Naked Mile.听This might be a Top Ten favorite event for me, guys. After you register online, get yourself to the Koenig Alumni Center at 8 p.m. with your Buff OneCard, five items of clothing to donate, and your signed waiver so that you too can dare to bare and run almost nude through campus on this wonderfully nipply October evening with 600 of your fellow Buffaloes. A word to the wise: this is NOT a completely naked mile; cops will be present. .

Food Day.听Be sure to swing by the UMC Fountain area between noon and 1 p.m. to catch a live band, student groups, a speaker from the Boulder County Farmer鈥檚 Market, and lots and lots of delicious food from local vendors. It鈥檚 International Food Day, and you need to eat, so you may as well eat delicious food with friends in the beautiful outdoors with accompanying music. Food Day information. .

Boulder High Haunted House.听Get in the Halloween mood this and tomorrow evening, as well as the Oct. 30-31, with the Boulder High Haunted House between 7 and 9 p.m. The theater department continues their tradition of Boulder鈥檚 best and most elaborate haunted house, which costs $12 per ticket and is certainly worth the wait for the screams and thrills you will most assuredly encounter. .

Saturday, Oct. 24

Swing Dance Aerials Workshop.听Register online for the CU Dance Department鈥檚 free swing dance aerials (jumping and lifting) class, which will take place in the Carlson Gym from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. No dance experience is needed- everyone is welcome so bring a friend! .

Haunted Halls.听Do you like exploring haunted houses? Are you prepared for a zombie apocalypse? Are you ready to be scared? If you answered yes, then check out the annual Residence Hall Association (RHA) Haunted Halls from 8 p.m. to midnight in the Stearns basement of Williams Village. The event will also include free food, a DJ and an interactive photo booth. Must have a valid Buff OneCard to enter. .

Banjo Billy Bus Tours- Boulder Ghost Tour.听Okay it鈥檚 a little cheesy, but this is one of my favorite things to do in Boulder in the fall because it鈥檚 so fun! Hop on board Banjo Billy鈥檚 bus, decked out with comfy couches and a horn that sounds like a horse, to take a cruise around Boulder and learn a little history and a lot of spooky ghost lore. This happens every Thursday-Sunday this time of year; tickets are $25 and they sell out quick so get on it! .

Padma Bhushan Mallika Sarabhai- In Search of Goddess.听The Grusin Music Hall in the Imig Music Building welcomes Padma Bhushan Mallika Sarabhai, one of India鈥檚 foremost choreographers and dancers from 4 to 6 p.m. Sarabhai routinely performs traditional Indian dance all over the world, and is known for her grace and skill. .
