Natalie Grothues
Current PhD Student
Department of Linguistics

I am a PhD student in the Linguistics department, with a BA in Linguistics and Cognitive Science from Rice University. My interests are in interactional linguistics and discourse analysis. I鈥檓 primarily interested in the relationships between discourse and morality (both moral stance-taking as well as how morality is imbued into interactional norms) and the negotiation of intersubjectivity within interaction. I鈥檝e previously worked on moral stance-taking and presentation of self in hurricane narratives (from the Harvey Oral Narratives On Record project), and I鈥檓 currently looking at the negotiation of contested terms in American school board meetings.
