Professor Fleshner's research focuses on neural and immune system interactions. Specifically she has been investigating the effect of stress on these systems in physically active and sedentary organisms. She has published nearly 70 papers in a variety of scientific journals including Journal of Immunology, Journal of Neuroscience, American Journal of Physiology and Journal of Neuroimmunology. Her research is supported by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Fleshner was recently elected to the scientific council of the Psychoneuroimmunology Research Society, and was appointed to the program committee of the International Society for Exercise Immunology. She currently serves as an assistant editor for Exercise Science and Sport Reviews and has served as a grant reviewer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Dr. Fleshner recently received the Motor Board Honors Society Teaching award.
