Tao Lin, who successfully defended his CU Linguistics thesis, 'Automatic Classification of Verb-Direction Constructions in Mandarin Chinese', in Fall 2019 under the supervision of advisors Martha Palmer and Laura Michaelis, has accepted a computational linguist position Milestone Technologies, Inc., a worldwide managed services provider with over 2,000 employees worldwide. In this position, Dr. Lin will use conversational agents like Amelia and Google Assistant to create natural dialogues for different clients and contribute to research design, data cleaning, coding, and evaluation of NLP-related components of wider AI projects. The position is focused on end-user experience and requires Dr. Lin to act as a liaison between the client and the AI technology, developing and training intents for the AI to execute based on natural language cues. Dr. Lin will work out of the Phoenix, AZ and Fremont, CA offices.Â
