LING 3630 (3 credits) Principles and Practices for TESOL

Fall Semester, MWF 1:00-1:50

Have you ever considered living overseas and teaching English? --Or wanted to help newcomers improve their English skills? This course provides a practical overview of principles and practices in TESOL in its many contexts. It introduces methods and materials (texts, media, tools) and standards for teaching, learning and assessment. Participants engage in lesson observation, planning and micro-teaching focused especially on listening, speaking, and pronunciation. The course has no prerequisites and is open to all with interests in linguistics and language and applications to teaching English to adults/young adults.Ìý

LING 3630 is a core TESOL course and can be taken on its own or as part of the new TESOL Certificate Program.

And looking ahead to Spring Semester 2018:

LING 4610 (3 credits): English Structure for TESOL.

Prerequisite LING 2000. LING 4610 provides an introduction to the study of English grammar from the perspective of the nonnative speaker and user of English. A core TESOL course, it can be taken on its own or as part of the new TESOL Certificate Program.

LING 4910 (3 credits) TESOL Practicum

Prerequisites: LING 3630. LING 4910 is a core TESOL course and part of the new TESOL Certificate Program. Can be taken after or concurrently with LING 4610.Ìý
