Now Hiring: Program Coordinator for the Program in Jewish Studies

The Program in Jewish Studies welcomes applications for a Program Coordinator. This position manages all operations for the Program in Jewish Studies in conjunction with the Director. This includes managing budgets and all grants, developing public programs, coordinating curriculum, developing and managing marketing and public relations campaigns, managing hiring and HR related issues for new faculty and other personnel, supervising staff, coordinating study abroad programs and student curriculum, and coordinating fundraising and development issues with CU Foundation.

This is a public-facing position that will interact with the community, students and faculty. Our ideal candidate must have strong organization skills, be an excellent communicator, and possess a real interest in working with students and our community.

Requirements:

Incumbent must be available to work occasional evening hours.

What We Require

Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
1 year of experience in an education or non-profit management setting that includes both program and budget coordination.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

What We Would Like You To Have

MA in field related to Jewish Studies.
5+ years of experience in the non-profit or educational management sector.

The Program in Jewish Studies is seeking an individual who can serve as a Lecturer and teach four Hebrew language classes for the Program in Jewish Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder – two in Fall 2019 and two in Spring 2020. Candidates with higher degrees (MA or PhD) will be given preference.

Duties may include:

Teaching
HEBR 3010 | Third Year Modern Hebrew, First Semester | MWF, 1:00PM - 1:50PM | Fall 2019 | 3 credit hours
HEBR 1010 | Beginning Modern Hebrew, First Semester | MWF, 2:00PM - 3:10PM | Fall 2019 | 4 credit hours
HEBR 3020 | Third Year Modern Hebrew, Second Semester | MWF, times TBD | Spring 2020 | 3 credit hours
HEBR 1020 | Beginning Modern Hebrew, Second Semester | MWF, times TBD | Spring 2020 | 4 credit hours
In consultation with Director of Jewish Studies and Hebrew Language Coordinator, developing course curriculum.
Evaluating and meeting with students and submitting grades.

*Courses are subject to cancelation due to unit’s needs, lack of enrollment, or other unanticipated occurrences. If classes are canceled, the appointment may be reduced to less than 50% or discontinued.

Requirements:

Candidates who have received a BA may apply.
Fluent in Hebrew.
Experience teaching language courses and developing curriculum.

Salary set by University: $4500 per class three credit class and $5000 per four credit class for a total of $19,000.

This is a temporary 50% position.

The Program in Jewish Studies is an academic, degree-granting program at the University of Colorado Boulder. Open to students of all backgrounds, Jewish and non-Jewish, PJS’s mission is to provide students with an outstanding, interdisciplinary, liberal arts education in Jewish history, literature, language, and culture. The Program fosters critical thought, engages students in professional development opportunities, and instills a keen appreciate of humankind’s interrelatedness and diversity. PJS also engages both the CU and external communities through extra-curricular programming, events, and projects aimed at furthering intellectual engagement in Jewish Studies topics. Further, the Program is deeply committed to the encouragement and development of faculty research and teaching.

Overview of Job Duties:

The Program in Jewish Studies (PJS) seeks an Instructor in Jewish Studies. This 1.0 FTE position will consist of a normal teaching load of up to eight courses per academic year. The instructor may be required to teach the following classes:

Introduction to Jewish Culture (JWST/GSLL 2350)
Contemporary Jewish Societies (JWST/GSLL/IAFS 3600)
Modern Jewish Literature (JWST/GSLL 2551)
Women, Gender, Society in Judaism (JWST/RLST 3202/WGST 3201)
Introduction to Jewish History (JWST/HIST 1818)
Israeli Literature: Exile, Nation, Home (JWST 4203)
Yiddish Studies courses

The instructor will also have the ability to propose new courses.

The instructor will be responsible for completing all teaching requirements, including preparing and executing courses, grading, and holding office hours. In some semesters, the instructor may have the assistance of a Graduate Assistant, whose work in grading and teaching, the instructor will oversee.

Service may include (but is not limited to): attending faculty meetings, serving on PJS committees, planning events and student programming.

The instructor may be eligible to be promoted to Senior Instructor within three years, depending on previous experience and performance in position. The first three years of teaching service will count toward Senior Instructorship.

SALARY: $44,000 - $48,000

The Program in Jewish Studies and the History Department at the University of Colorado Boulder seek a tenure-track assistant professor or tenured associate professor in Israel/Palestine Studies with specialized training in history. The position will start August 2018, and the person hired will have completed all requirements for the PhD in history (or a related discipline such as Jewish Studies or Middle Eastern Studies) by then. The successful candidate will be proficient in Hebrew and Arabic, be expected to participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching, conduct independent research, lead regular global seminars to Israel (and the West Bank, if possible), and contribute to the intellectual and institutional life of the Program in Jewish Studies. The successful candidate will be rostered in the History Department but teach three out of her or his four classes per year under the auspices of the Program in Jewish Studies. Requirements include:

The Department of Political Science and the Program in Jewish Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder invite applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in Religion and Politics or Minorities in Politics or Jewish Studies. The appointment begins in August 2018. The search will focus on but will not be limited to scholars with a research interest in Jewish Studies.

Priority will be given to candidates whose teaching interests include Jews and Judaism in the public sphere, anti-Semitism in American politics, or the politics of the Jewish experience in America, for example. The position will be fully rostered in Political Science, with teaching split evenly between the two academic units. Because the position requires substantial undergraduate teaching in Jewish Studies, the successful candidate must have demonstrable strength and interest in teaching in courses in the area of Jewish Studies.
