New hires for the 2019 semester must do an I-9
As new employees begin any form of employment with the University, federal law requires that they complete an I-9 form to confirm identity and work eligibility. Using our third party vendor HireRight, employees are sent an email invitation to start:
Section 1 of the I-9 process. Section 1 must be completed on or before the first day of employment. The new employee must be prepared to present original documentation in person to a University I-9 Partner representative to finish Section 2.
Section 2 of the form is completed no later than the 3rd business day the employee starts work for pay. Please refer to the list of acceptable documents.
- As always, the Form I-9 may be completed as soon as there is a job offer and the person has accepted the job offer.
- Any breaks in service, employees must do a new I-9 online using HireRight. Rehiring retirees, they must complete a new I-9 in HireRight.
- Hiring a former student into a staff position, they must complete a new I-9 in HireRight.
The shutdown does not affect an employer's responsibility to verify employment eligibility. Employers must still complete the Form I-9 no later than the third business day after an employee starts work for pay and comply with all other Form I-9 requirements. If you have any questions about the I-9 process or need help sending out email invitations to your new employees, please contact the I-9 Coordinator, Nicola Bertello at 5-8191 or email I-9forms@colorado.edu
