Why join a fraternity or sorority?
Membership in a fraternity or sorority is more than wearing Greek letters, attending meetings and going to parties. It is an experience that fosters a place of belonging where friendships can grow into deeply rooted relationships that will last a lifetime. Joining a chapter can make the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ community smaller and your experience as a Buff more meaningful. Most importantly, it can provide you a safe place where you know can count on your brothers and sisters in good times and in challenging times. It’s not just four years, it’s for life!
One of the key benefits of membership in a fraternal organization is the leadership development opportunities that can help you gain the valuable experience that you will need to compete in life after college. Fraternity and sorority members participate in a variety of programs that provide leadership development. There are many ways to be a leader in the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ community, including chapter or council officer positions, national or regional leadership conferences, campus-based leadership opportunities and committee involvement.
Academic excellence is a vital aspect of fraternity and sorority membership at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ. Scholastic standards are important for each chapter and the community as a whole. Programming, incentives, recognition and ongoing support help fraternity and sorority members achieve academic success. Academic achievement is the reason students are at CU; fraternities and sororities are designed to help their members meet that goal.
Service and philanthropy is a meaningful part of fraternity and sorority involvement. It is perhaps the most personally rewarding experience as members are provided with opportunities to participate in hands-on volunteer work and implement philanthropic events to raise money for charitable causes. The opportunities ensure that fraternity and sorority members will have an impact on their community and develop lifelong habits of giving back.
While each chapter wants all members to be active within their organization, engagement with campus is an important connection that will help members build a stronger affinity to their alma mater. Fraternity & Sorority Life works closely with the Center for Student Involvement, which strives to connect all students with experiences that promote student success, personal growth and a vibrant campus community.
Membership in a recognized fraternity or sorority provides an opportunity for students to be embedded in the fabric of the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ community. We firmly believe that your experience in your chapter and your experience as a buff is not mutually exclusive. Both are important and may serve different needs throughout your time as a student. And by embracing both experiences can build better Buffs that will make their mark on campus and will stay connected after they graduate.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Fraternity & Sorority Life holds dear the values of intellectual growth friendship, social responsibility, well-being and leadership. These shared values, along with the Colorado Creed, serve as a foundation, but just stating them is not enough, especially in light of recent acts of racial discrimination and violence. Racist language and actions within our community do not reflect what it means to be a Buff or the values of our recognized fraternity and sorority community.Ìý
