New NIH R01 grant

Feb. 22, 2020

The NIH National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) recently awarded our lab a 4-year $2.4 R01 grant to investigate the research and development of oxygen microbubbles for treating acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ARDS affectes nearly 10% of patients that arrive to the intensive care unit, and the mortality...

New NIH R01 grant

Feb. 22, 2020

The NIH National Cancer Institute recently awarded our lab with a 5-year $1.76 million R01 research grant for optimization of microbubble dose for blood-brain barrier disruption and treatment of brain cancer and neurological disorders. The research team includes Brandon Harvey at NIDA and Nick Ellens from local ultrasound company Acertera .

Verya Daeichin

European Symposium on Ultrasound Contrast Imaging

Feb. 16, 2020

We had a great meeting in Rotterdam for the 25th European Symposium on Ultrasound Contrast Imaging . Verya Daeichin presented a talk on his single-shot laser photoacoustic characterization of microbubble dynamics, and Mark Borden presented a poster on Gazendra's new endoskeletal droplets.

Congrats, Dr. Jordan Lum!!!

Jan. 10, 2020

Jordan Lum successfully defended his doctoral thesis on Optical Measurements of Single Microbuble Viscoelastic Properties. While in our lab at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ, Dr. Lum published 3 papers in excellent journals, such as Langmuir and Applied Physics Letters , has one more paper in review, and gave five conference proceedings. Jordan...

Borden, Kwan and Sirsi

ASA in San Diego

Jan. 7, 2020

Mark Borden recently gave two invited talks at the Acoustical Society of America meeting in San Diego . "Biomimetic lung surfactant nanodrops for acoustic droplet vaporization" "Using the Doppler effect to characterize microbubble shell viscoelasticity" The Cavitation Nuclei sessions were organized by laboratory alumni Shashank Sirsi and James Kwan !

J. Surgical Research Paper

Nov. 22, 2019

This original research article reports on a collaboration with Benjamin Terry from the University of Nebraska to test oxygen microbubble therapy in a rodent model of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Animals receiving peritoneal microbubble oxygenation (PMO) showed a clear survival benefit over controls.

Our research article on microbubble displacements in plane-wave versus focused-wave transmissions was chosen for the cover story for IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control.

IUS2019

International Ultrasonics Symposium in Glasgow, Scotland

Oct. 24, 2019

The group had a strong showing at the 2019 IUS meeting in Glasgow . Prof. Borden gave a short course on ultrasound contrast agents, together with Hendrik Vos, and he chaired a scientific session on Microbubble Dynamics and Formulations. Kang-Ho Song, Jordan Lum, Gazendra Shakya and Prof. Borden all gave...
