I have been interested in the pernicious, pervasive problem of underrepresentation of women and minoritized groups in STEMM fields since high school, when I was first assumed to be only interested in documentation and decoration rather than internal mechanisms or software on my robotics team. I think CU and the CEAS are a fascinating environment to study isolation and challenges of broadening participation in engineering, given resource constraints and issues of scale for a large public research university. I am thankful to see how our collective efforts to make our culture more inclusive here in engineering are beginning to bear fruit, and I am grateful to feel supported in these efforts from colleagues in my home department of Mechanical Engineering, the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and across the CU system as well.
