Following his May commission with the U.S. Marine Corps聽Steven Gore聽(CivEngr鈥12) will head to basic school training in January 2013. In the meantime he has traveled to England to visit family and will go to Peru to see Machu Picchu, Wyoming to climb and Nepal to hike near Annapurna.

For two years聽Christie Sounart聽(Jour鈥12) worked as student assistant for the聽Coloradan, writing feature stories, profiles, Class Notes and news stories. Upon graduating in May, she served as interim assistant editor for the magazine for seven weeks. The summer after spring graduation聽Andrew Tycksen聽(MechEngr鈥12) went on a two-week mission trip to Cambodia to help a village that was previously settled on a minefield. He taught and played with children who attended a nearby school. Since returning from Cambodia, Andrew works as a mechanical engineer for Electric Equipment & Engineering. The company designs and builds power equipment for such telecommunication companies as Verizon and T-mobile. He lives in Arvada, Colo.

Since graduating聽Monica Gauthier聽(Art鈥12) has started her first business endeavor called Activyst, a company that creates women鈥檚 athletic bags and supports girls鈥 sports programs in developing countries. Monica writes when girls play sports, they are healthier, more educated and happier, which then benefits their communities. One of her business partners worked on this issue with the World Health Organization in Nicaragua. Monica lives in Longmont, Colo.

PM Environmental welcomed Challenge Detroit fellow聽Anna Balzer聽(EnvSt鈥12) to its team as a research consultant for the national due diligence group. Challenge Detroit is an urban revitalization project that brings innovative leaders to the city to live, work, play and be leaders in the community. In addition to working at PM, Anna will work with nonprofit organizations throughout the year to help with multimodal transportation, homelessness and community development.

In 2013 700 young professionals applied for the fellowship program 鈥淐hallenge Detroit.鈥澛Anna Balzer聽(EnvSt鈥12) was one of 30 selected. The yearlong fellowship is designed to attract and retain top, young talent to the city of Detroit. Through the program, its initiators hope to educate and form the city鈥檚 leaders of tomorrow.

Jordan Darrington聽(Fin鈥12) and聽Emily Lindquist Darrington聽(Engl鈥12) moved to New Jersey last year. On July 15, they welcomed future Buff Jackson Lee Darrington into their family. The healthy baby boy was 9 pounds, 2 ounces, and 21 inches long. Jordan works for OppenheimerFunds as an equity and fixed income trading assistant in the company鈥檚 New York City office. Emily writes that she is blessed to be able to stay home with Jackson.
