For three nights in July, artist听Adam Milner听(Art, Jour鈥11) took his living arrangement to a new level. His exhibition, 鈥淎nother Room,鈥 featured his entire bedroom in the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art where he talked with visitors and used video, photography, performance and drawing to document his interactions and routines. The exhibition was part of an ongoing series to address the key influences that shape people鈥檚 actions and decisions. Adam lives in Boulder.

Last year听Trent Beckley听(Fin鈥11) was a member of CU鈥檚 basketball team that made it to the NIT Final 4. He works for Lijit Networks, a start-up firm in Boulder specializing in advertising. He writes that more than half of the company鈥檚 employees are CU alums. Trent says the company is continually hiring and wants to share job opportunities with alums across the country.

While working on the听CU Science Update听video series,听Jenna Browder听(Jour鈥11) of Gunnison, Colo.,听Eric Duggan听(Jour, PolSci鈥11) of Arvada, Colo.,听Sabina Hadzic听(Jour鈥11) of Lakewood, Colo.,听Amanda Yourick听(Jour鈥11) of Castle Rock, Colo., and CU senior听Greg O鈥橞rien听won a Heartland Emmy award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The winning episode,听Pluto 鈥 The Un-Planet, was part of their advanced video editing course and featured the Space Dust Counter, an instrument made by CU students that is aboard NASA鈥檚 New Horizons mission to Pluto.

Because of his strong commitment to the engineering community,听David Eason听(MechEngr鈥11) received the Colorado Engineering Council Silver Medal award, the council鈥檚 highest honor at the university level. He also received CU鈥檚 mechanical engineering department鈥檚 鈥淥utstanding M.E. Senior for Research鈥 award at his graduation in May. He also earned a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, which has allowed him to pursue studies at Stanford University.

The Center for Tax and Budget Accountability named听Amanda Kass听(MGeog鈥11) research and policy specialist for pensions and local government where she heads the center鈥檚 Illinois Retirement Security Initiative. The Chicago-based nonprofit organization aims to ensure that tax, spending and economic policies are fair for everyone. While at CU, Amanda鈥檚 master鈥檚 thesis focused on post-earthquake reconstruction efforts in Haiti, underscoring the importance of fiscal policies in ensuring the public sector has the capacity to deliver services.

College was much more than academics for听Anita Lowe听(IntPhys鈥11). While pursuing her degree, she taught English to middle school students in China, held a medical internship in Costa Rica, volunteered with earthquake disaster relief in Peru and studied in Italy. The Denver resident plans to become a physician and possibly work for Doctors Without Borders, an organization that works to bring quality medical care to people in need throughout the world.

Overcoming hurdles is second nature for听Sarah Deacon听(MCDBio鈥11). She was the first to graduate in her family with a college degree, a feat especially monumental because she dropped out of high school and spent some time homeless. Her next goal is to go to medical school. 鈥淣ow I am officially qualified to do what I know I am capable of,鈥 she told the听Colorado Daily.

After serving on CU鈥檚 Program Council听Justin Greenstein听(Jour鈥11) and student Eric Kean had the idea to start their own concert promotion company called Amplitude Entertainment. They assist student groups and campus organizations across the country in hosting cheap shows. Their services are free of charge to campus groups, and the duo takes a percentage of the concert鈥檚 ticket sales or advertising. Justin told the听Colorado Daily听that they got the business idea after they were unable to throw a huge spring concert at CU due to lack of funds.

After working with Interactive Theater,听Anthony Hull听(PolSci鈥11) is making a documentary on a school in Harlem with creative partner听Gregory Callan听(PolSci鈥12). Anthony believes that education is one of the most important topics in our country, and in underrepresented communities, great education needs to be available. Earlier this spring he served as a judge in the CU Idol, a campus singing contest sponsored by The Herd.

After graduating a semester early听Jamie Roberts听(Jour鈥11) moved to Quepos, Costa Rica, to become vice president of MidWorld Costa Rica, an adventure park nestled the country鈥檚 tropical jungle. She oversees the park, sometimes even working as a photographer on the ziplines or guiding tours. In her spare time she likes to travel to see the rest of the country with her camera. 鈥淚 believe in taking full advantage of everything Costa Rica has to offer, and it鈥檚 not uncommon to find me doing some crazy activity, like bungee jumping or waterfall rappelling,鈥 she writes. One of her photos appeared in the June听Coloradan听in the 鈥淟eafing through summer鈥 feature.

鈥淲e鈥檙e getting ready for CU vs. CSU over here in Afghanistan this week,鈥澨Alex Banks听(PolSci鈥11) wrote in August. Alex is a second lieutenant located in the northern Helmend Province of Afghanistan along with two other Buffs. One of Alex鈥檚 classmates,听T.J. Perna听(EnvSt鈥10), is serving in the south with a different unit. The four Marines participated in the NROTC program while they were in Boulder.听
