Swimming and diving, triathalon teams win national titles

Varsity athletes aren鈥檛 the only Buffs bringing trophies back to Boulder. This spring, both the CU-Boulder triathlon and swimming and diving clubs repeated as national champions.

Swimming and diving won the East Coast Collegiate Swim and Dive Championships 鈥 the national club title 鈥 in Atlanta in April. It was the team鈥檚 fifth national title in a row and ninth overall.

Also in April, triathlon earned its sixth club title in a row and 16th overall in Clemson, S.C.

CU-Boulder has 17 and 31 active .

In swimming, Casey Wilson (Mgmt鈥16) won the women鈥檚 100-yard IM and 100-yard breaststroke, while Alaina Gosset (Jour鈥17) won the 100-yard backstroke and set a new meet record of 2 minutes, 6.65 seconds to win the 200-yard backstroke.

In women鈥檚 diving, CU swept the podium in the 1-meter and 3-meter events with Emma Plentl (Geol鈥18) finishing first in both and Hanna Le (Art, ArtHist, MCDBio鈥15) coming in second twice. Conor Mead (Class, Engl鈥18) was third in the women鈥檚 1-meter event and Bonnie Grieson(IntPhys鈥17) was third in the 3-meter final.

In men鈥檚 diving, Jake Voltarel (MechEngr鈥17) and Matt Jagiello (IntlAf鈥17) finished second and third in the 1-meter.

鈥淥ur team strength comes from our depth in all the events as well as our diving,鈥 says club president Onshalee Promchitmart (IntPhys鈥16). 鈥淲here many teams have only one representative in an event, CU often had multiple individuals in final events, which helps the team immensely.鈥

In triathlon, Rudy Von Berg (Mktg鈥17) led the way with a victory in the men鈥檚 overall Olympic-distance race. He finished in 1:44:41.
