Ashleigh Lawrence-Sanders is an Assistant Professor in the History department where she teaches courses on African American history and U.S. history. Her research interests include Civil War memory, Black cultural and intellectual history, Black Southern history, Black radicalism, and public memory in the United States. She is currently working on her first book which explores Black Americans’ long engagement with the legacy of the Civil War and the myths of the Lost Cause. Her work has been featured in The Washington Post, Black Perspectives, NPR as well as Al Jazeera and the BBC News.
