Three outstanding colleagues have been designated听employees听of听the听year听by听the听College听of听Arts and Sciences at听the University听of听Colorado Boulder.

The听three honorees are:

• Kirsten Apodaca, undergraduate program assistant in听the听Department听of Physics
• Jean Balch, manager听of听finance and operations in听the听Department听of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (MCDB)
• Patrick Tally, assistant dean听of听academic and curricular affairs in听the dean鈥檚听office

The听employee听of听the听year听award, which comes with a $1,500 bonus, is presented annually to A&S staff in recognition and appreciation听of听exceptional job performance.听

Apodaca听has shown great dedication and high-level performance as she worked to update听the听degree requirements, revamp advising for College听of听Engineering and Applied Science and physics and spearhead听the听concurrent BS/MS admission procedures to better serve students.

Nominators praised Apodaca for her 鈥渃ompetent and firm management skills鈥� and 鈥渆xpert analysis and ability to see problems before听they arise.鈥�

Balch听has served her department with expertise, guidance, and dedication during one听of听MCDB鈥檚 rocky transitional periods, and this allowed听the听department to maintain maximum functionality with minimal disruption. This was an impressive feat.

Besides being a highly regarded resource in MCDB, Balch has served on听the strategic planning committee, research administrators'听leadership team and has done consulting work with other campus entities.

Tally鈥檚 leadership and his staff鈥檚 dedication and professionalism have been evident as听they deftly managed听the听challenging task听of听directing听the听complex and diverse undergraduate academic and curricular activities throughout听the听college.

Additionally, Tally took a guiding role in听the听General Education implementation process, which has proceeded smoothly and efficiently in large part due to his efforts. Many听of听Tally鈥檚 nominators noted his ability to see faculty vision and drill into details while also keeping听the听students first and foremost in his mind.
